Setting up a Canadian Bank Account...

Are there any banks that will allow you to complete the entire account setup process remotely?

I've called 5-6 banks, and they've all stated that I would need to go to a branch in order to set up my first account with them.

You must go there. It is Canadian banking regulations that you must present photo government ID (US ok) for your first account. After that, you can open accounts online if you fund them with a Canadian check.

HSBC will tell you you can open online, but will then assign you a routing number from your home country (US)
